Situation Report: Updating a dental plan
The Situation: Over the years, a client paid little attention to dental benefits. As a result, benefits appeared less rich than competitors'. The benefit design did not take advantage of language to combat abusive billing practices, or provide benefits for new technologies.
The Challenge: To balance the need to provide competitive benefits without excessively increasing costs.
Action Taken: We suggested best industry plan language to enhance benefits, without significantly increasing costs to the employer or employees.
The Results: Our client contracted with a strong vendor, replaced the traditional indemnity plan with a well managed PPO, and adopted exclusions and limitations that minimized cost and encouraged appropriate care.
